This is typically a for profit organization that asserts a social mission to make social or environmental change above the normal economic goals of profitability.  Some notable examples are:

• Grameen Bank created in 1976 by Bengali Mohammad Yunus,
• Kiva Microfunds, and
• Seven Shores Urban Market & Cafe in Waterloo.

There is a movement for Social Ventures to formal declare themselves to be a B Corporation.
